OVERVIEW

Parents have options when considering how to transport students to and from Sage International. You can drop off and pick up students using personal transportation, take advantage of our bus service, or if you live nearby we encourage students to walk or ride their bike.

PICK UP & DROP OFF FOR NON-BUSERS

While this is convenient for many families, please review Pick Up and Drop Off  for Non-Busers so you can understand the traffic flow and time requirements to do so. Another popular option to access Sage’s free busing.

SAGE BUS SERVICE

Sage International contracts with Caldwell Transportation to provide optional bus service to our students at no cost, with the shared priority of the safety of our students while they are traveling to and from school. Our routes cover the entire Boise School District and we provide strategically located community stops, which differ from door-to-door stops a traditional public school offers. Read more details about that here. You can find our schedule and stops for each route by clicking the buttons below.

Bus Registration

REGISTERING FOR THE BUS

Your student MUST be registered for the bus via the form below in order to ride the bus. You are responsible for determining the best route and stop for your student to take. Please follow the steps below to determine the most convenient bus stop for you and your student. Even if there’s just a possibility that they may ride at some point, please fill out the form so we have a record of their potential travel plans.

Please register your child for EACH ROUTE they may take during the school year. If they may take different routes on different days, please make form entries for EACH route. If you need to add a stop or route, even temporarily, please re-complete the survey for ALL routes.

Once you have submitted the registration form, your student is registered to ride the bus. You will not receive further confirmation from Caldwell or Sage.

If you have an elementary student, please ensure your child and teacher both know which routes and stops your child uses for each day of the week. An email to the teacher is the best way to share this information.

For secondary students, please ensure your child knows which routes and stops to use for each day of the week.

ROUTE & STOP SCHEDULE

It is the responsibility of riders and their families to determine which routes and stops work for the unique needs of their family. Caldwell Transportation and Sage staff will not make recommendations. Below is a suggested process for identifying which routes and stops are the best fit for your family.

STEP 1: Find which bus stop works best for your family. Stops are most often located either at intersections or in parking lots, and these are the only stops the school offers. Most families use Google Maps to calculate the distance from their house to find the nearest stop. Click the buttons above to view the current bus schedule and the maps of each route’s stops.

STEP 2: Register to ride the bus using this form. Once you have completed and submitted this form, your student is ready to ride! You will not receive any further confirmation from Sage or from Caldwell Transportation.

RULES & PROCEDURES

It is the mission of Sage International and Caldwell Transportation to provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school. Because the safety of our students is our top priority, and riding the bus is a privilege, all rules as indicated by the driver MUST be followed. Consequences for behaviors can include temporary to permanent removal from the bus, and these decisions are related to the severity and frequency of the behaviors. Detailed information about rules and discipline procedures can be found below. To prioritize the safety of all, Caldwell and Sage International will adhere firmly to bus rules and discipline procedures. Riding the bus is a privilege, and it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain control of oneself.

  • Students must be at their bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Buses may be slightly late or early due to circumstances beyond driver control, such as mechanical failures, traffic, inclement weather, discipline, etc.
  • Buses will not wait for students who are not at the stop and ready to go. This means students must be at the bus stop and not in a car or in a location away from the stop when the bus arrives. Please ensure your students are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. If the bus were to wait for unprepared students, it would pull the whole route off-schedule. If a student misses the bus, it is the responsibility of the student and parent to transport the student to school.
  • If your elementary student is of an age and maturity that you can trust them to be dropped off with no supervision at the stop, please print and complete this Drop Off Bus Release. Return the form to the front desk and we will share with Caldwell Transportation that you give your permission.
  • If there is no supervision for a student at a drop off site and they do not have the above permission form on file, the bus will continue the route while dispatch will attempt to contact parents. Once contact is established, parents will work with dispatch to determine a way to collect their student.
  • If no contact can be established with parents by the end of the route, dispatch will work with local law enforcement to ensure a student is supervised and parents are located.

Because late or missing supervision strains busing service, there are procedures that will be followed, charted below, that can result in a year-long removal from the bus.

Parent Supervision Incident Procedures
Supervision Incident Number Consequence Procedure
First Missing/Tardy Supervision Warning Parents will be notified by Caldwell and Caldwell will notify Sage to document the incident.
Second Missing/Tardy Supervision Warning Parents will be notified by Caldwell and Caldwell will notify Sage to document the incident.
Third Missing/Tardy Supervision 5 day suspension of student from bus Parents will be notified by Caldwell and Caldwell will notify Sage to document the incident.
Fourth Missing/Tardy Supervision 10 day suspension of student from bus.

Multi-party meeting and signed agreement.

Parents will be notified by Caldwell and Caldwell will notify Sage to document the incident. Student will not be allowed to return to the bus until a meeting has occurred with Student, Parent, Sage, and Caldwell Transportation. Student and parent must sign acknowledgment that another tardy will result in a year-long removal from the bus.
Fourth Missing/Tardy Supervision Year-long removal from bus Parent will be notified that student has been removed from bus for remainder of year.

On-Bus Rules and Discipline Procedures

Busing is considered a privilege to be enjoyed by a student only as long as she/he accepts responsibility for her/his own conduct, carefully follows all rules and regulations, promptly responds to the directions and requests of the bus driver, and follows all Sage International School and contracted bus transportation rules.

DETAILS ABOUT SAGE'S BUSING

Sage prides itself in being able to offer busing for students, though recognizes the limitations it faces in serving a large enrollment area. Busing for charter schools is unique and does not offer the same level of service and number of bus stops a traditional public school can offer.

Sage does not offer “door-to-door” bus stops, but instead uses “community” bus stops. Community stops are often a distance from any single person’s home, but are located in central locations that allow our small campus to bus students throughout a zone similar in area to the entirety of the Boise school district. While every effort is made to minimize the distance a student must travel to a bus stop from their house, there are times where students may have to travel in excess of 1.5 miles to arrive at their stop. Every attempt is made to ensure bus stops are located in safe areas, such as large parking lots, so families can wait with their students, as necessary.

Bus routes and bus stops are set at the beginning of each school year. Parents may register students to ride the bus and select which existing routes and stops are most convenient for their student. When enrolling in Sage and taking advantage of our bus service, it is important that you consider if the existing routes and stops work for your family because our busing cannot accommodate requests for new or moved stops.
